General Assistance Notice
Cumberland County administers a General Assistance Program for people in need in partnership with the municipalities listed below. Pursuant to Title 22 MRSA-4304, the Municipal Officers have adopted an Ordinance establishing the General Assistance program. Copies of the Municipal Ordinance and General Assistance statutes are available, upon request, for public inspection at local municipal offices.
Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may do so during regular business hours by calling 207-632-2240. Applicants are encouraged to call and schedule an appointment ahead of time.
In the event of a LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY, occurring after normal business hours applicants may contact Cumberland County Emergency Dispatch 207-893-2810 and ask them to contact the General Assistance Administrator.
The General Assistance administrator must issue a written decision within 24 hours of receiving an application.
